Colour Pallettes

These are possible colours i will use in my coursework as they are bright and look good on the front covers of the magazine to attract peoples attention. They also compliment eachother.

I would use the yellow tone for the headlines as they stand out, the first or second tone would be the ones out the pallette i would use.

I was inspired by the grey backgrounds from the NME and Q magazine as it gives a soft effect which text can easily be noticed on. Also the black colour possible can be used and the little discriptive text colour just to make it stand out on the page but not as much aas the subheads.

My inspiration for the pink came from the NME magazine with Rihanna on the front, i loved how it stood out and gave a  girly feel, while a female artist was featured on the front cover. However i wouldnt use the too light or too dark tones i would use one from the left hand side as they give more of a noticable feel.

I found this pallette on the internet and immediately i liked how all the colours complimented eachother and stood out from all the rest, i decided to add this on as they are possible colour i could still add in.

Basic Idea For My Magazine.

At first i was struggling with what genre I would base my magazine on, it was between R&B or Pop. As my taste in music is a wide range i don't think it mattered which one i chose as i like them both however i am more inspired by R&B music.  R&B has a lot of styles to it such as dance and bass it used to stand for  rhythm and blues and also originates from the tradition but more modernly standing for rhythm & bass. In comparison now a days it is a term more referred to a style of African American music which came about during the 1980s in the demise of disco; it is also refered to as being a style of  urban contemporary. R&B has been  popularized by vocalists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Another reason I chose R&B as my genre not only due to the high audience and popularity of it, but there are many different types and both of there factors will include a range of artists and therefore a range of audience and readers. as I can include many different artists and bands into my magazine to attract more readers.  In my class R&B will be a popular genre of music choice so I want to try and make my music magazine so i will include a girly theme to it which is not always put across in this particular genre through the style so my magazine will therefore be more unique.

Also, I will include a fashion/ technology theme to my magazine via putting in photo shoots and advertising objects such as ipod or iphones. On my double-page spread i will include an interview instead of a article of a problem and feature the main model and artist of the magazine not only asking music magazines but fashion ones too i may feature a 'look book' into the magazine for an added bonus to the fashion aspect.

Front Cover Analysis 3.

The background with the red straight the way catches my eye and isn't usually used in music magazines as they are usually dark backgrounds but is very effective as it brings a more colourful look to the magazine. The yellow titles stand out on the red background and work well with the blue title of the magazine. However the little subheadings are in white and are in a small font so they don't stand out any more than the yellow titles. All three of these colour work well and make the magazine stand out the most out the three i have analysed. this itself will up the selling of this particular magazine as more people will pick it up. As you can tell i have chose magazines with strong female artists featuring on the front covers as they inspire me and Christine Aguilera is no different as her pose bring attention from everyone to the magazine, however it is done in a clean way not offending anyone. by placing the writting all around her it gives the feel that she is the main feature of the magazine giving her power in the photography on the front cover as we then see that she is important in the magazine itself. Even her head is over the title also showing that her photo is significant, also the font with her name is  not only yellow but the biggest on the front page attracting the viewers eye straight to that fact. RollingStone use a rethorical question on their front cover which attract the viewer and makes them feel more involved and more personal towards them, influencing them to pick up and buy the magazine. the text used don't really give too much away it just taunts people into wanting to read more for example, '.. and the rock star who loves them'. The bubbled writing stand out even more that when bold and looks more friendly rather than the usual rock font where its sharp and edging, this could then attract different types of audiences. In this pose Christina has no clothing on making her seem vunerable however she is still wearing her shoes and accessories, by using the guitar to cover herself up she is relating to the style of magazine with the rock theme. her whole body is to the side with only her face facing forward again looking straight at the camera therefore looking at the viewer, the eye contact makes the whole pose powerful. The connotation of the pose is sexual giving the music magazine a more adult view and you can see this through the photo.

Front Cover Analysis 2.

NME is a music magazine featuring major pop artists and i particually chosen this one as it has Rihanna on the front cover and she is who i have been researching. Again the background colour used is a soft grey however the main headlines are in a bright pink colour, such as the magazine title 'NME', who's featured and also the main headline that is in the magazine being, 'THE STATE OF MUSIC TODAY' which will interest music lovers. The bright blue eagle on her shoulder colour carries the theme on through in her eye make up to her skirt making it stand out and collides well with the pink bringing more features and attention to the magazine to catch the viewers eye. Rihanna is also a strong female artist however her pose is not as powerful as Lay Gaga's, NME have gone for a more modelling pose but stronger in the face, and placed the photo in the middle of the page with the bright colours in the main detail being the picture as the pink heading is in the middle and the blue feature is based in the photo. By using a huge artist well known like Rihanna NME then attract her fans to read the magazine. The main heading which is about Rihanna featuring it is placed bang in the middle of the picture of her, as mentioned earlier it therefore then doesn't make her stand out as much and makes her less powerful looking. Rihanna, is the headline along with the title if the magazine. By using her name directly it is then following by a quote from her gives a more personal approach. Capitals and bold fonts make the words stand out and attracts the viewers attention however other little details are in black or white. The bold use of the colour pink for the name Rihanna brings her fans attention straight away and will automatically look at it as it appeals to therm and they then want to read on. The clothing that she is posed in gives a decent appeal and isn't revealing therefore could not be offensive to any readers or viewers that may pick the magazine up. She is bending forwards toward the camera looking straight into the lense making it more personal to the viewer, the eye contact makes the whole pose powerful. The connotation could be sexual, or just simply powerful within taking control.

Front Cover Analysis 1.

The predominant colours are the red and white texts which are often used on music magazines along with black. They make a sharp contrast against the grey making them stand out more being more asthetically pleasing to the reader's eye and therefore catches their attention. The use of the of these colours in contrast on the front cover shows their significance and importance to the magazine as they are the main headlines and features. Using a strong female artist placed in a powerful pose in the middle of the page brings attention to the magazine, also because of the typical clothing Lady Gaga is wearing. her fans are both men and women however the younger generations then bringing her fans to read the magazine boosting sales and the audience. The picture is mainly placed over the writting also showing the power, almost like the fact that she is featured in the magazine is more important and significant than the other sub headings on the front cover, parts of her hair even cover the logo and title of the magazine. The main words are presented in mainly white, such as 'GAGA' they are also set in capital letting to stand out even more. The bold use of the colour red for the '100' brings my attention straight away a hundred classed as a big number it appeals to the viewer and they then want to read on. However on the other hand the use of fonts also depend on the importance of the headline. By starting with the outfit she is wearing you can see that there is not very much to be seen on however this look doesn't make her look vunerable by the way she is standing and looking straight at the camera. With her leg standing open it gives a strong statue and a masculine feel, also her hands covering up the featured parts of a women making the cover a little more decent. Her neck is straight along with her back holding her head straight looking at the camera showing that she is there to be photographed and gives a sexual connotation.

Research.

 Rihannah.....

I have chose to research Rihannah because i am inspired by her music and we can see that she ids a very strong posed women who appeals to both sex's as herre i have searched a male magazine with her on the front cover being, FLM and a womens magazine being Marie Claire. As she is a music artist i though it would be realvent to also research her as she is involved in music not just the photography and modeling of the front covers. The front voer poses range from different looks however she looks strong in all of them.

She also feature in a music magazine that i am going to analyse, although this sint recent as the other magazine photos her eye contact and pose is still strong looking straight at the camera.

Rihanna appeals to both men and women.
Women, as they appriciate the strong mindedd and talent, however men, due to the attraction and also the appriciation for her talent in the music buisness. However more towaards the younger generation due as her style is more R&B and she is greatly involved in fashion as well as music.

Keri Hilson.

Keri Lynn Hilson was born on the 5th of December in 1982 and raised in Decatur, Georgia in America. She soon became a recording artist and songwriter. She was part of The clutch a five person production team where she penned tracks for artistsduring the mid-2000s. In the year 2006 Keri became part of a recording contract with Timbaland's label, Mosley Music. Then she releaseed her album In a Perfect World during 2009 in the month of March it featured hit singles such as "Knock You Down" and "Turnin Me On". In the US it managed to reached number one on the chart Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

I have been inspired by this artist all my life by her dance music thats why i have decided to include her in my R&B artist research. I love how she has a pose which inclludes an eye contact soft look but still gives a strong effect. I will consider using the eye make-up she is wearing in image 3 as it is a soft tone.

Ashanti.

Ashanti Shequoyia Douglas was born on the 13th of October in 1980 in New York, Glen Cove, her parents are  Ken Kaide and Tina Douglas who is a dance instructor. She studies at Hampton University & Princeton University in her youth, there she had refused a track & field scholarship to enable her singing career to bloom. Ashanti was first in the public eye in 2001 as a background vocalist for a hip-hop remake of Madonna's "Justify My Love," as well as "When A Man Does Wrong." which both appeared in the film "The Fast and the Furious". In early 2002 she had her big break when she featured in  "Always On Time" by rapper Ja Rule and Fat Joe's "What's Luv?".
Ever since i was little i have enjoyed and still listen to her music to this day, i had only heard it on the radio years ago. Unfortunately i have never managed to see her live but she is still such an inspiration as she is not only involved in music now she has her own fragrance range and going to release her own brand of jeans called Delicious Curves so as a result she is also into fashion which i want to include in my magazine. She has also appeared in movie such as Bride and Prejudice, singing "My Lips Are Waiting", Coach Carter and John Tucker Must Die.

I thought it would be a good idea to research Ashanti because of her sense of style and fashion. I will also look at her modeling photos to see if i can take any inspiration from her images for my poses like the ones above.
