Overall my pitch powerpoint had all the relevant information on which i wanted to include on my magazine apart fro the name as i was not a hundred percent in what i wanted to do.

Sample Photos.

Article.

1) What were your favourite artists when you were growing up?

Well I had loads, Kylie Minogue was my favourite inspiration at the time I realised I wanted to follow in her footstep and to be as famous as her.

2) Who inspired you when you made your decision to take this route for your career?

As time has gone on my main not only friend but inspiration to follow my heart is the beautiful Rihanna she is so bubbly and great at what she does she can always put a great performance on without failure.

3) How do you feel about your current album?

Ermm, yeah I’m really happy with it so many people worked so hard to complete it in time for the deadline I can tell you know it was of the most stressful times of my career but seeing the outcome after brings me so much delight and then makes all the worry worthwhile. I just want to say thanks to all the team who worked so hard and put their all into this album, I just hope you all enjoy it!

4) What was your favourite part in making your video for your latest song?

The costumes it’s got to be, I loved them, really took me back to my childhood when all the girls went out up town having a good old laugh. The crew were just amazing I mean we were up at 6 starting to shoot every day and they just kept you awake keeping to coffee and banter flowing.

5) How did you find this experience when you first started in this business? And are there any other ambitions you would like to fulfil?

Ohhh its was so overwhelming at first but as soon as you get into the routine it’s still so difficult but you become gradually more used to it and I’m not saying it gets easier but the lifestyle, well you adapt to it. My main ambition is to go on tour and do a duet album with Rihanna, never know might happen.

6) We know you have a huge fan base.  What's it feel like when you get on stage and they're screaming your name?

It is one the THE most encouraging heart racing experiences I have ever felt, imagine being on a roller coaster when your heart is beating twice as fast than before you get on. It like that but the boost you get from it makes you want to do more and go faster.

7) How well do you get on with your management? Do you have a good relationship?

Ohh so well they are like my second family. They look after me so well, I don’t know what I would do without them. I mean Eddy my personal assistant acts like my brother and makes sure everything is organised for me and in shape.

8) Do you find it difficult being on your own on stage singing? Is it at all daunting for you or have you gotten used to it? Do you think life would be easier as a member of a group?

Ermmm it is daunting, being on a massive stage and it’s just there all for you to use, but once you get going you can’t stop, also I’m not completely alone I have my boys from the band behind me to boost me up.

9) You have been compared to 'Rihanna' and 'Beyoncé'. Would you agree with this and why?

I have indeed and it is a great honour, they have both become close friends to me and without their help I don’t think I would be this confident as I am now within the business. In some respects I do agree with it as we have the same music style and fashion style but we are all our own people at the end of the day.

10) Do you prefer to keep your social life away from your work life?

Yeah I don’t get how people like Katy Price can be so strong and let people into her life I think it would affect me too much and put me down she is so strong minded I respect her so much for that. But as anyone knows in this industry it is so hard to keep your private life with relations and that to yourself as there are always people out there that want to stir something up to make it juicier.

11) Do you ever think a change in genre through your music will ever change?

No, I don’t think I could change my style of music because it is me I reflect it through from what I like to listen to myself. Although I do like other genres of music like Pop and artists such as The Saturdays but that’s not what has inspired me throughout my life, which has made me who I am today.

12) Do you ever want to settle down and put your music aside when getting older?

Oh yeah of course I want to settle down but music will always be a part of me so I think I will do what Tina Turner did carry on but settle down and do come back or special tours for my fans as they become older or even the younger newer fans that join my fan base.

13) Where would you love to become well known?

America, definitely. I love their enthusiasm when they’re in the crowd.

14) If you had the chance what other artist would you work with and why?

Well I would of loved to of meet and worked with Michael Jackson because in my eyes he is like the god of the music industry. Jay Z is the artist however I would love to work with in my next album, maybe a Rihanna and Jay Z combination!

15) You play at a lot of gigs and festivals, such as Glastonbury, V festival and Reading. Which did you find was the best to perform at?
They were all great the crowd’s reactions were all amazing but if I had to choose it would be Glastonbury just because of the vibe, the weather helped as it brought everyone’s best side out and there was no rain to prevent performances.

Inspiration for Poses

The picture below inspired me because of the black and white theme of the clothes and the way the model is staued as she has her hand on her hip leaning partly forward but also pulling her shoulder back. She is using her arm to lean on a chain giving a more strong effect on the picture, this allows shape to her pose as on side of her is closer to the camera and the other side is further away, however if she kept both arms straight and at the same angel this style wouldnt work. Her arm looks like it is in a triangle shape with her head tilting forward more as well as to the side where her arm is this makes a constant line up along the arm to her head. This has inspired me to create this shape in my models poses and prehaps use other initals and lining such as the
use of a 's' shape.

I love this photo because the model is looking straight at the camera in the photo. The way her mouth is slightly open inspires me to use this pose as it give a powerful look however on the other hand it also makes her look innocent and vunerable, almost like there are two poses in one. By using strong but not noticable make-up it also darkens the eyes and almost makes them more meaning full and deep to look into and as she is looking straight at the camera she makes the photograph seem more personal towards the viewer. It makes the photo look very vibrant but without colour and energetic as her hair is moving, as i have a single model as well i think this would work very well with my magazine as it gives more personality to someone just being alone. As we dont see the rest of her body it is very important that the face pose is strong and eye catching.

For my next picture, I decided to analyse a photo of a model sitting down as in my sample photos i asked the model in a few photos to sit down. I think this looks like a really good look as it encloses the whole photo into a small but effective pose, also it means that the model can be wearing more revealing clothes but however can still look decent and covered up by using her for example in this photo legs and arms. She has her hand faintly touching her fore head, by doing this it gives an elegant effect to the photo. Also the smile on her face brightens the photo up through the mood. The shape of her body gives a curled up innocent look, by the way that she is facing the camera but with her body facing the complete other way it also gives a vunerable effect. I think this would be a very original pose to use for one of my models.

This is one of my own sample pictures that i may use because it is patentially my favourite, i love the way the model is looking stright past the camera and the flash off the camera lights up her face however her eyes and moth stand out amoung the rest. She is standing straight on but it is the camera which is placed to the side of her. By placing her arms out i thought it gave a strong approach by having her hands against each wall. She is tilting her head slightly forward making it just a little closer to the camera compared to the rest of her. With her hair i decided to place a little over her face to give a messy look, by doing this is make it look more modern and not as formal. This is a mid- shot slightly close up but that can be down to her being tilted forward to the camera.

Tests shot inspiration: Costumes

Red Hair Rihanna

When i researched some picture on riahnna i was mainly noticing a recuring theme of her not wear alot however they were still decent and not offensice pictures The uses of colours were either very bright and in your face or a soft tone for example like the image above. I noticed that in most of the pictures Riahnna uses a cover up approach for example she is holding her legs in the previous image i would like to use this idea in my pictures depending on what clothes i choose will depend on what 'hiding pose' she will model. I would like my models/band members to dress in different clothing for each set of picturesfor example, around ten photos for each outfit and then around 5 different outfits so therefore hopefully they will all be individual. As the main feature i am trying to put across through the artists and her clothing is a bright colour i will ensure that one feature of the outfit will be a bold noticable feature.

In particular i was inspired by these images as I noticed that by wearing a bright red coloured skirt in her outfit, it matched her hair surprisingly working well together and giving a constant trend throughout the picture it also grabbed my attention at the red really stood out well this has a good effect because it doesn't look over the top with too many colours and although she is showing alot of skin it still looks very classy and sophisticated. I want to prevent using too much colour and too many differnt ones as the theme is to have one bright colour on the shots.

However on this picture the strips on the jacket work well with the black and white as they also give a bright and contrastin approach compared to her red hair which consequently could class as the bright colour which needs to stand out itself. The stripes also add an R&B style as it adds some style to the outfit as it isnt plain and boring. I might use this idea in some sample shots as well and see how well it works however my artist doesnt have bright red hair like Rihanna so i still may need to use a bright peice of clothing in replace.

Test Shot Inspiration : Make-up

In my test shots i will do my models make up so it gives a smokey eyed effect in which Rihannah wears in many of her music videos also use a really dark lipstick for example, like in the picture below

The lipstick will give a good idea of what the colour scheme will look like on my final magazine front cover. The problems i might face are that the make up looks too much and over the top as the eyes and lips will draw the attention from the audience not just one main feature.  So throughout my photos i will take pictures with just the lipstick then with just the eye shadow and then with both of them and conclude what i want for my final photo to ensure the photo doesnt look too tacky or in fact draw too much attention this will ensure i will have the best possible photograph for my front cover.

I want my models to base their make-up on the colour that they are wearing which will be based on the colour grey with a bright colour involved to stand out. With the smokey eyes, they appeal to me as it gives and strong effect however the shadowing also gives a soft effect as it comes out, also you can contrast different colours of eye shadow within the eye make-up when doing smokey eyes.Along with that i also like the fact the eye shadow goes underneither the eye as it bring out the eyes themselves more and their natural shape and shine. However the black eyeliner around the whole of the eyes can also shape the eye to what you wish and stands out mored than the eye shadow.

For using lipstick I want to base the colouring on the bright colour i am going to use to stand out in the clothing and going to match it with the lipstick. I will use a foundation base on the lips to ensure a bright effect as the lips will then be the same colour as the skin tone, then i will apply a lip salve for a base coat and to soften the lips, followed by the lipstick itself ensuring i add alot of layers so the colour has a matte effect and shines through. For a final coat i will add lip gloss just to make the lips look healthy and appealing.

Magazine Publisher.

I have chosen 'IPC Media' as the publisher for my music magazine because this particular company are also the publishers for the magazine 'NME' which i have been studying and like the Rihanna front cover of, also it include the latest artists which i want to include in my magazine which i produce. IPC Media is formerly known as the International Publishing Corporation owned by Time Inc, throughout the United Kingdom it is a consumer magazine and digital publisher containing a very large portfolio which manages to see over 350 million copies every year.

Magazine Title.

I was stuck for the choice i had to make for my title as i didnt know where to start. Although i did know i wanted it to be kept short or abbreviated, as in my eyes unless the titles catchy a long title can be boring or wouldnt stay in someones head as easily. A made-up word or a word to do with the particular genre would be a good idea however as it would be original and creative however i think i may use a therm used within the music industry. As there was many different ways it made my choice and descision more difficult.

Firstly i searched on google themonology related to music and it cam up with hundreds of word to each letter of the alphabet, then i simply at random clicked on a letter and searched through which word caught my eye then researched what it meant. I repeated this process and in the end bought the range down to three possibilities.I thought that this was a good idea as people with knowledge within music would automatically understand what the magazine genre is and therefore would then relate. Also the thermonlogy word would relate to all styles of music.
In the end i chose the name DUO as it mean two like a duet, with a connotation of the magazine and the reader as a duet. Also the word was short and snappy resulting into it being easy to remember. The majority of the results to the question of their favourite magazine in my questionnaire chose 'NME' and i believe this is due to them being able to remember the name and therefore automatically think of it when questioned about a music magazine. You will then have to read on through the magazine or cover lines to be able to then realise which genre of music it is based attracting them into reading more.

Marketing Research Evaluation.

After looking at the results for the questionaire it has helped me make some decisions about how i will layout and what i would include in my magazine these are some of them:

• As'NME' resulted into being the most popular music magazine through my questionaire i will based my layout on their designs.
•I will publish my magazine weekly due to my results but also because i buy magazines weekly too.
•£2.00-£3.99
•I will us coverlines around the phtot on the front cover for my magazine and it also attracts peoples attention not only the photos.
•I am going to including a competition or prize in my magazine as my results show that people are usually more interesting i buying a magazine if there is a gift or potentional prize inside.
•A bright colour will be the main feature on my colour palette for theme as this gives a shocking eye catching effect.
•My main selection of artists i will use are female artists along with bands and other figures. They will all be current artists featured in my magazine.
•Alot of the people that took part in my questionaire all go to gigs at some point but the majority go often so i may includse a coverline featuring a gig or upcoming music events.
•Just over half of the participants in my questionaire were interested in the fashion side of a possible part of my magazine and other so i will also include that sense if theme.

item-34item-40item-35

I have chosen these picture not because they are all maleas i didnt intend to, but due to the fact they all have props in them, This is what i am going to consider doing in my photoshoot.

Basic Magazine Research.

Rihanna-NME-Magazine.jpg

  • The magazines i have been looking at and studying which you are avaible to buy are for example NME, Kerrang, Q, Mojo, Smash Hits, Rolling Stone, BBC Music Magazine, Clash and Mixmag. I will be studying four of these magazines for my analysis; being NME, Q, Rolling Stones and Kerrang, as they are the ones that most appeal to me and catch my eye due to the styles of bright colours.
  • Each of the magazines has a different genre  which vary from indie/alternative, mainstream, rock, pop, classical and R&B. However i am going to look more closely to the R&B genred magazine as that is the style i am basing my final covers on.
  • £2.00 to £4.50 is usually the price range seen upon the shelves of the shops as it goes from the minimum quality up however you can still get more expensive magazines; on the other hand my target audience being young people wont nessacerily pay more the £4.50 for a magazine.
  • Overall magazines are either sold weekly editions or monthly editions, monthly ones on the other hand usually contain and cost more.
  • You can find magazines being sold in frequent places such as supermarkets, newsagents/corner shops, petrol stations and drug stores.

Magazine Inspiration.

Flavour magazine is based towards the younger generation targeting towards 18-24 year olds however still do have a loyal fan base in the 16-17 and 25-35 age range, who are ambitious and follow the latest fashion, trends in music, business, and specific arts for a creative talent amoung technology. As you can see from the images above they use bright colours in comparison to other music magazine this is due to the genre as it is seen to be looked upon to be vibrant and lively. The bright colours will also appeal to the younger generationl, also by using younger more well known artists such as Lily Allen and Alexandra Burke. It is an established brand for up to 4 years now with 20,000 copies distributed in London with the rate of readership being 67% female and 33% male.

Distribution

They distribute within Universities and colleges, also at fashion boutiques, music and retail outlets in the London area as that is where they are based. Flavour also hand copies to marketing companies, record labels and fashion brands.

Editorial style

Flavour Magazine champion’s through a number of differnt fashion styling and outlets, along with the music trands emerging and while basing it all on the youth culture. Many interviews occur with well known artists as well as up coming ones, this is not only in the music industry but also through entertainment, sport, fashion and business sections.
It also provides the readers and buyers the latest beauty and fashion news along with the latest hottest gadgets appealing to their target audeince.

Image 1: I love how there is a boxed area around the title making it stand out more as there is bright pink font upon it. The pose that teh model is doing makes a strong sexual look also appealing to the audience as it isnt 'boring'. As she is looking straight at the camera it gives a more personal appraoch amoung the viewer too. However this magazine has more than three colours in the palette as there is pink and white being the two main but then black and grey with in the title.

Image 2: Although the picture has no colour i think it works well as the text then stands out more. This pose is more fun on the other hand althought the model has make up down her face like she has been crying it gives more a vibrant fun look rather in comparison to a sexy look.

Image 3: I dont like this front cover as much as the others i have reviewed as it isnt as eye catching due to the colours used the red is eye catchhing however there isnt enough of it being used for text. The white is contrasting but it is abit boring and plain.

Magazine Inspiration.

The magazine 'VIBE' is a magazine based on R&B genre like i want mine to be; the poses will be my mine inspiration along with the layout when i will be designing my music magazine. 'VINE' is a magazine which publishes things such as the following:
  • Artists/ bands
  • Gigs
  • Photo shoots
  • Latest gossip in celeb world
  • Advertisement within top brands
  • Latest news in charts and the music industry
On this blog post I evaluate each different images of the front covers of VIBE magazine above...

Image 1: I really like the use of the fading title in into the fierce picture of Ciara  as it guides the viewers eyes down. The background also ties in with the fading effect having an overall theme to the front cover with the colour palettes. As the model is wearing black shoes and black hair the fading colour begins from a black.. I also like how the model is placed over all the text even the title showing that she is a big hit and it is a big deal that she is featured.

Image 2: Again, like Image 1, the model is wearing nothing an it is down to the strength of the pose in which attracts the attention of the viewer, both poses are facing forwards and having eye contact. However in all the magazines with women on the front they are seen upon to be objects of sexual desire in this particular genre. Again the model image is on top of the title and cover lines showing her importance. For my magazine i will use the pose for the model to be looking straight at the camera.

Image 3: Compared to the last two magazine front covers this one has a male artist on but in my eyes doesn't seem so strong so as a result i will use a female model on my design. The pose 'TI' (the model) is doing however i like as it is strong but not a fierce moody pose including some laughter into the image.

Image 4: In this image I like how the model is leaning forward into the camera pointing upwards but almost looking down onto the viewer with the vunerable look but also sexy, another photo of a female posed as an object of desire. With the sexy pose comes along a red colouring theme which also is are presentation piecing it all together, the short cover lines are
 also red.

Image 5: The model on this particular front cover is standing pointing at the viewer giving a more personal approach on the audience catching their eye, this adds more involvement into photograph. During my photography i will have to consider more personal poses toward the audience other than eye contact.

Image 6: The three main colour palettes contain, red, black and white contrasting the colours for the background again fading like in image 1.  The model is wearing red top as well overall involving all the colours together; clearly a lot of thought went into the designing of the magazine.  When taking pictures i will also consider the clothing colour and choice of styling.
